Female voices in exile vol.8
0,00 €
The eighth edition of Women’s Voices in Exile collects texts by women from Syria and Lebanon who left their countries and now live in Germany, Norway, Qatar, and Turkey. These texts reflect the similarity of the conditions that women in exile and in countries of asylum experience on an emotional level, mainly related to homesickness for home, family, and friends. They also reflect women’s different perspectives on the relationship to the self, the motherland and the new homelands.
There is a lot of embarrassment and fear in the women’s texts, but there is also a high sense of resistance and strength, which is the most important thing that migrant and refugee women offer when writing about the social, cultural and professional experiences they face in their new homelands.
The aim of these texts is to provide German society interested in issues of migration and asylum with a horizon of knowledge about Arabic-speaking women living in Germany, their aspirations, and the challenges they face.
These texts were produced during the Women’s Voices in Exile workshops that took place both live and virtually during 2021.
